Sports and Culture
Much is written on the connection between culture and sport. It is undeniable that the two are linked and that culture has a significant influence on sport and the way it is played. However, how can sport influence culture? How can sport be used to promote positive changes in culture? By bringing people together, sport plays an important role in societies as it builds solidarity and reminds us of the importance of being connected to a community. Sport is a way that young people from around the world are finding a way to connect with each other. Young people are looking for community and they are finding it through sport. Sport, both historically and presently, is being used as a tool to directly change culture and is helping achieve important social development goals among groups and in areas often missed by mainstream programmes.
Srizony Foundation as a social development organisation with an aim to remove poverty from the rural areas and also to make each society a even better one has taken Sports and Culture programme into consideration for the children and the young people living in the society with the help an assistance from PKSF. We always try to bring and mix our own heritage with the Cultural and Sports programme and we do it with the participation of the people of the rural areas so that they can get a refreshment every once in a while which gives them more energy to work harder.
Recently Srizony Foundation along with PKSF hosted a selection campaign for the Bangladesh Youth Summit -2018 where only 700 honest, eligible and brightest students from all across the country in more than 10’000 educational institutions are selected. We were given the task of selecting only 10 bright and eligible students among all the students of 9th, 10th, 11th and 12th standards of the entire Jhinaidah district. Srizony Foundation arranged an all day long programme filled with examinations and presentations to find out the actual bright and eligible students and the worthy ones to go on this Summit. We invited top officials of the area and renowned teachers from the top schools along with our own supervision just to ensure that only the brightest and the eligible ones among all the students get this once in a life time opportunity.
Srizony Foundation also arranged a Village Fair in Modhupur High School field. It was quite a festive day for the people of that area. We arranged singing and dancing competitions along with recitation competition on stage. Srizony Foundation also arranged a fashion show for the kids there. We also arranged various kinds of sports in the school field like Skipping, Basketball, Frog Leap Race, Bi Cycle race, Football with the elderly players, sprint and other sports throughout the day. All these things were arranged with the participation of the people and kids of that rural area only. And later that evening at the end of the prize giving ceremony we arranged a concert for those hardworking people. Srizony Foundation also gave opportunities to the local singers to sing their desired songs along with high quality instruments played by the professionals. It was indeed a memorable day for all the people living in that area and also for Srizony Foundation.
