Women & Child Rights
Prevention of women and child trafficking:
Trafficking in women and children has been a growing Concern and grave Violation of human rights. In addition, the Convention of Elimination of all forms of discrimination against women (CEDAW) and the Convention on the rights of the child (CRC) also have the Provision to take appropriate measures against trafficking. Many children and women are trafficked from the Country each year. It is estimated that an average of 4500 women and children are smuggled to India and Pakistan. The Trafficking rate in Bangladesh has increased dramatically. Srizony Foundation deals with the significant problem, which has become a common Asian Phenomenon riddled with complaining and dilemma for the societies particularly to the organization involved, in women and child trafficking.
The following district are the targeted areas where Srizony Foundation is working:
– Meherpur
– Chuadanga
– Kushtia
– Jhenidah
– Jessore
– Satkhira
The focus of the program is to prevent women and child trafficking from the southwest border of India and Bangladesh to a great extent. A team of well-trained staff of Srizony Bangladesh is involved in implementing these activities through awareness creation, the campaign in schools, colleges, hat, Bazar and its locality, rally for group members, formation of village and union development committee, monthly co-ordination meeting in schools, village development committee, union development committee, courtyard meeting, distribution of poster, leaflets and handbills, observation of different national and international days.
Legal Aid and Gender Justice Program :
Srizony Foundation started working on Gender Justice in Jhenidah District in 1992. The goal of this project is to help both women and men to understand their roles in the term of gender equity within the project intervention areas. A team of well-trained staff of Srizony Foundation is involved in the project and has become able to make the women and men in rural areas understand and aware of their roles in the matter of gender equity. The Legal Aid program provides Legal Aid to Victims of torture and violence, illegal divorce, dowry, early marriage, Polygamy and social injustices. A legal Counseling Committee was formed through which several
cases have been concluded in weekly Counseling meetings. The program has been contributing significantly in the community in reducing the incidents of illegal divorce, women torturing, oppression, dowry, polygamy, etc. Srizony Foundation has solved 300 various social problems through “Grammya Shalish” and 50 problems through cases for the empowerment of women in the society in recent times. It is mentionable here that Srizony Bangladesh is an active member of “Manab Adhiker Bastabayon Sangstha” in Bangladesh.
Relief & Rehabilitation Activities:
In 2004,Srizony Foundation has implemented rehabilitation works through NGO Forum in collaboration with Unicef-DPHE at Raghabdair Union of Sadar under Magura and Panthapara Union of Moheshpur under Jhenaidah district. A total of 660 sets of Sanitary Latrine, Repair of Tube-Well ground-50, arsenic test 655 households, school-based education on health hygiene and sanitation, courtyard meeting etc were conducted through the project.
Voter and Civic Education and Observation of Election:
Srizony Foundation is one of the members of the Election Working Group (EWG) through The Asia Foundation. The Election Working Group (EWG) is a 34-member coalition of Civil Society Organization that shares a common commitment to free and fair election, good governance and the achievement of higher standards of democratic representation and accountability in Bangladesh. Several international development partners fund the EWG. The Asia Foundation plays a lead technical and coordinating role. Srizony Foundation implements the Project in Jhenidah, Magura, Kushtia and Rajbari district. Under the project Srizony Foundation has completed district, thana union coordination’s recruitment and provide training of 7 thana coordinators and 79 union coordinators. Srizony Foundation has already completed the formulation of the anti-violence committee at the union, than, and district level and distributed various types of anti-violence posters.
Listen to children’s voice project:
Srizony Foundation implements a child-oriented project name “Listen to Children’s Voice Project.” Bangladesh Sisu Academy (Jhenidah) helps to implement the project and Save the Children Australia gives technical and financial support. Listen to children Voice Project is being implemented from 2006 with the vision to empower children to raise their voices in realizing their rights. Listen to Children Voice Project also aims to prepare adults to recognize the rights of the children and any violation of those and to share information and power and to develop new kind of relationship and partnership with children. The main components of the project are the National Children Parliament. Child journalism, Children’s website and district core committee which is also known as National Children Task Force. National Children Task Force of Jhenidah district formed at dated 16.09.2006. The primary target is children age between 12-18 years with urban and rural backgrounds. Relevant Government institutions, NGO officials, guardians, parents, community people and members of civil society as duty bearers will be sensitized to response to child right issues.
Srizony Foundation strongly believes that as right holders, children have the rights to information, expression and association and have the rights to express their view on issues affecting them and being listening to them. Considering the social and cultural context and status of children it is felt that special intervention is required to empower the children through a range of activities which will help them to raise their voice.
Development Program for Disability:
Srizony Foundation initiated this project in 1998 with the financial assistance of National Disabled Development Foundation & Abilis Foundation. Srizony Foundation believes, without the development of the Person with Disability (PWD), the community development is not possible. With a view to rehabilitate & change the situation of the person with a disability in the society, a trained team of skilled staff has been working in this program. The project intervention has provided Primary Rehabilitation Therapy (PRT), Support Devices, Referral Services, and Credit Support for IGA as on their need. Through different activities running by Srizony Bangladesh have 421 disabled people as incorporated through Community Approach on Handicapped and Disability (CAHD) activities. Empower Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) by enabling them in society;
Transfer appropriate knowledge to the community;
Develop appropriate rehabilitation.
